Many beauty experts are
rediscovering excellent curative properties of algae, and are recommending their use them in beauty and skin care products.
We have seen many useful drugs which
contain algae extracts. These are very simple, chlorophyll-containing organisms
in a family that includes more than 20,000 different known species, and contain
vitamin A, sugar, starch, vitamin B1, iron, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium,
copper and calcium. Most of these are beneficial for skin, either as
emollients or antioxidants. In cosmetics, algae act as
thickening agents, water-binding agents, and antioxidants. Some algae are also
potential skin irritants. For example, the phycocyanin present in blue-green algae has
been suspected of allergenicity and of causing dermatitis on the basis of patch
tests.
Skincare should be treated as
essential daily routine during winter when skin develops dryness, and it needs to
be nourished regularly with right kind of formulations. A healthy, intact barrier lets
skin look smooth, soft and moist – exactly the opposite of dry skin.
Many cosmetic manufacturers are glamorously advertising their products for use in winter which contain substances
like hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, cholesterol and ceramides. However,
it is for the consumers to make sure that the ingredients in these products do
not contain such substances which pose potential risk for the skin. To protect
skin during winter from dryness, one has to prevent water loss which is key to
maintaining skin’s moisture. Emollients are lubricating ingredients that prevent
water loss and have a softening, protective and smoothing effect on skin.
At Herbally Radiant, we have been
using algae in our top of the range moisturizers for years. A special product
launched by Herbally Radiant is BODY POLISH. It contains Blue Green Algae as
key ingredient in combination with almond oil and body butters like Avocado,
Cocoa, Shea and Mango. To derive optimum benefits of this formulation, we have
also added sea salt, grape seed oil, apricot oil, evening primrose oil and vitamin
E. Its ultimate body polish to exfoliate and nourish skin and to soften those
rough skin patches which are visible frequently.
Popular demand of HR BODY POLISH is
evident from the fact that new batches get immediately sold out and we have to
procure ingredients again and again – since these organic products should be
produced in fresh batches.
