HOW TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO SKIN FROM SUN EXPOSURE!

The aging process of skin due to sun exposure is of special concern to all of us, and we are testing different combinations of ingredients to create product which would prevent or help slow down the adverse impact of sun exposure on skin.

In recent scientific tests, it was found that by blocking the activity of Granzume B in certain areas, fewer wrinkles on skin of mice were seen, despite their repeatedly being exposed to wrinkle-inducing UV light. Further tests are on; there could emerge side effects from blocking Granzume B activity.

At Herbally Radiant, we have tested the efficacy of avocado with few other herbal ingredients, and have found that avocado oil based formulation in our Body Day Cream has proved to be very effective in preventing skin damage from sun and other pollutants. Combined with aloe juice, grapeseed oil, shea butter, witch hazel and extract of white willow bark, this unique formulation in Body Day Cream provides best protection from other external factors, while, at the same time, keeping skin adequately moisturized in this winter season. Priced at

$ 12.90, 4 oz jar, the cream is good both for body and face. (Free shipping on order for 2 jars.)

ALGAE IN ORGANIC BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Use of algae in beauty products is increasingly being promoted by many brands.

Algae, often called “seaweed”, has become hot topic among cosmetic ingredients who have cited many studies to the effect that algae can stabilize minerals that aid in skin moisturization; that it has anti-acne properties without the irritation of over the counter drugs; and it may help with skin lightening.

We have seen many useful drugs which contain algae extracts. These are very simple, chlorophyll-containing organisms in a family that includes more than 20,000 different known species and contain vitamin A, sugar, starch, vitamin B1, iron, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper and calcium. In cosmetics, algae act as thickening agents, water-binding agents, and antioxidants. Some algae are also potential skin irritants. For example, the  phycocyanin present in blue-green algae has been suspected of allergenicity and of causing dermatitis on the basis of patch tests.

Skin experiences more dryness during winter, needing right kind of moisturizer and nourishment. During winter, skin’s capacity to absorb nutrients also grows.  To protect skin during winter from dryness, one has to prevent water loss which is key to maintaining skin’s moisture. Emollients are lubricating ingredients that prevent water loss and have a softening, protective and smoothing effect on skin. A healthy, intact barrier lets skin look smooth, soft and moist – exactly the opposite of dry skin.

Many cosmetic manufacturers are heavily advertising their products for use in winter which contain substances like hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, cholesterol and ceramides. However, it is for the consumers to make sure that the ingredients in these products do not contain such substances which pose potential risk for the skin.

At HERBALLY RADIANT, we have included algae in a new product “Body Polish”, an amazing formulation to exfoliate and nourish soft skin.  Along with blue green algae, it contains sea salt, almond oil, vitamin E, avocado  and coconut oil, besides other ingredients to reinvigorate and revitalize skin in natural way. Priced at $ 34.90 (shipping free) ( 4 oz jar), “Body Polish” from Herbally Radiant is among the best natural organic skin care product in the market.

HOW TO MAINTAIN BEAUTIFUL LOOKS

There are many beauty brands in the market, all claiming to offer best eye cream to remove emerging lines and wrinkles. Eyes are the focal point of face, having bags, bulges, crow feet and wrinkles do not create youthful appearance. Let us briefly look at this delicate area of face, and learn how to remove puffiness or shadows.

The area around eye is very delicate; the eye contour has the thinnest – nearly ten times thinner than the facial skin - and most fragile facial skin. It lacks sebaceous glands and collagen and elastin fibers. Under continuous strain of 22 muscles in perpetual motion and 10,000 blinks per day, the area under eye is the first to show signs of aging, and begins to show early wrinkles and traces of tiredness.

With tiredness or age, blood and lymph microcirculation around the eyes may slow. The tissue around eyes has very few oil glands and it lacks the natural moisture which should be maintained with right kind of formulation.

Few tips for keeping skin around eye healthy :

Firstly, choose safe and skin-friendly formulation, preferably organic. Products containing excessive oil increase the likelihood of clogged glands around the eyes that can lead to styes and other ocular problems. Particularly in the case of contact lens, the oil not only sticks to the lens causing blurred vision, but can also cause permanent staining.

-         Drink plenty of water which is essential for maintaining elasticity of skin.
-         Avoid smoking. Nicotine constricts blood vessels, especially under eye area, making it difficult for nutrients to be absorbed which further causes breakdown of collagen.
-         Avoid direct sun. Overexposure to UV rays causes melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells, to mature abnormally and cause uneven pigmentation and premature signs of aging.
-         Wear good sunglasses to avoid squinting and developing crow feet.
-         Get adequate rest since fatigue can cause skin to appear under stress and pale.
Limit alcohol intake. Excessive drinking causes dehydration.

As the established manufacturer of herbal organic beauty products (HERBALLY RADIANT), we would recommend our special formulation: “Eye Cream”. It is aloe-based preparation with orange jojoba, lavendula and vitamin E.  With other complementary natural ingredients, its daily use can immediately start eliminating fine lines and puffiness, gradually removing the dark circles. This ideal cream, with antioxidants, provides protection against free radical damage and external pollutants.

In good anti-aging routine, this herbal organic Eye Cream acts effectively by nourishing and revitalizing the delicate eye contours.

EFFECT OF STRESS ON SKIN

From a recent women's survey conducted by a brand skincare company, it was interesting to learn that as many as 92% of them admitted that "stress impacted on the quality of their skin".  (It was followed by diet, sleep, hormones, genetics and skincare products.)

We have been advising our customers that for maintaining beautiful appearance, it is essential that they avoid stressful situations. And in the matter of skincare products, it would be safer to go in for gentle skin-friendly skin care products which have excellent soothing effect physically and mentally. Many organic skincare products have these beneficial properties.

We have been experimenting with several combinations of herbal organic ingredients, and have found that some Essential Oils, when combined with right amount of extracts of plants and herbs, create amazing calming effect on skin. This helps in relieving a great deal of stress, which in turn gets reflected in the overall appearance.

In particular, the use of Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil and Tea Tree Essential Oil have produced excellent effect on skin, especially on sensitive type of skin.  Herbally Radiant has been using these Essential Oils in some of its top brands like CLEAN range, which have become favorite particularly for acne-prone skin.

INDOOR TANNING CAN ACCELERATE AGING OF SKIN.

Huffington Post today carries useful advice that indoor tanning has many potential health risks, besides skin cancer.

From the point of health of skin and its natural complexion, the point made by the spokes person of JAMA Internal Medicine is important:

"UV exposure from indoor tanning accelerates skin aging; the gradual loss of the skin's elasticity results in wrinkles, skin sagging, and dry, coarse skin."  There are other risks like "If the tanning bed isn’t clean, you can also get a serious skin infection with symptoms like genital warts, skin rashes, skin warts, and flaky, discolored patches on your skin, UV exposure from indoor tanning accelerates skin aging."

He also noted that exposure to UV radiation from indoor tanning is much more intense than anything that could come from the sun. Additionally, sensitive areas of the skin -- that wouldn't usually be exposed in outdoor tanning -- are often left unprotected during indoor sessions.

Skin needs better treatment during winter time. Keep it adequately moisturized, preferably with herbal organic formulations which feed skin with useful nutrients.

Towards safer acne treatment products.

In the light of increasingly aggressive marketing campaigns by some brands for grabbing greater market share of cosmetic products, especially for acne relief, FDA issued a warning this summer to acne brands, which meant those brands doing aggressive marketing should also update their product labeling with fuller information about possible allergic reactions.  FDA is now suggesting that manufacturers should also warn new users to first test new acne products on a smaller area of skin at least 3 days before using it as directed.

In separate reports, many new products coming from China are reported to be carrying chemicals with potential harmful effects.

HERBALLY RADIANT has been campaigning for proper protection of skin with safer formulations. It has, therefore, launched a special herbal organic acne relief product (CLEAN) launched after due testing; it has received excellent reviews from customers - details at www.herballyradiant.com.  The natural organic CLEAN products provide relief from acne and other skin disorders, while, at the same time, nourishing skin with right kind of nutrients.
