WELCOME ANNOUNCEMENT BY NESTLE TO DO AWAY WITH ARTIFICIAL COLORS AND FLAVORS

This seems to be an outcome from Nielsen market survey where more than 60% Americans showed disfavor for products containing artificial colors and flavors.   NestlĂ© USA has therefore announced plans to remove artificial flavors and colors from its chocolate products , including  Butterfingers, Crunch and Baby Ruth bars,  by the end of the year. NestlĂ© will be the first candy manufacturer in the U.S. to remove artificial ingredients in its existing products, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Artificial flavors and color additives, if seen on the label mean unnatural ingredient, or a blend of hundreds of chemicals. Artificial flavors are found in thousands of processed foods. All these are widely believed to create health hazards. Artificial colors are widely used from cereals to cosmetics. Most artificial dyes are linked to hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, including adverse effect on children’s behavior.
Fortunately, there are alternative natural ingredients which USDA considers safe for use of consumers and which Nestle is said to be considering to use in future.
As in food products, Herbally Radiant has also been promoting healthy skincare products and transparent labelling of products with detailed ingredients. This is important to protect health and interests of the consumers. Most of the chemical ingredients in cosmetic products create health risks; Herbally Radiant is witnessing increasing cases of skin allergy, mainly due to harsh chemicals in cosmetics.  It is therefore using natural organic formulations with USDA approved ingredients.

HOW TO MAINTAIN SKIN ELASTICITY AND LOOK BEAUTIFUL?

Emerging wrinkles and sagging skin are the major visible signs of aging. Changes in skin (epidermis, dermis, sweat glands, hair follicles, blood vessels and fat), are also due to environmental factors (like sun exposure), genetic makeup, nutritional food, lifestyle, including  physical work-outs,
Due to aging, the outer skin (epidermis) thins, but the number of pigment-containing cells (melanocytes) decreases, while the remaining melanocytes increase in size. Aging skin thus appears thinner, more pale, and clear (translucent), and begins to show pigmented spots, liver spots especially in sun-exposed areas.
Changes in the connective tissue reduce the skin's strength and elasticity, leading to leathery, weather-beaten appearance more among those spending time outdoors. The blood vessels of the dermis become more fragile. Sebaceous glands produce less oil as you age. Men experience a minimal decrease, usually after the age of 80. Women gradually produce less oil beginning after menopause. This can make it harder to keep the skin moist, resulting in dryness and itchiness, and growth of skin tags, warts and other blemishes appear more commonly among older people.
The appearance of the face and neck typically changes with age. Loss of muscle tone and thinning skin gives the face a flabby or drooping appearance. In some people, sagging jowls may create the look of a “double chin.”
Your skin also dries out and loses the underlying layer of fat so that your face no longer has a plump smooth surface. To some extent, wrinkles cannot be avoided. However, sun exposure and smoking speed up their development, thereby increasing the number and size of blotches and dark spots on the face.
HOW TO MAINTAIN SKIN ELASTICITY
Avoid exposure to sun by : (a) using good quality sunscreen when outdoors, even in winter, and (b) protective clothing, hat, as necessary.
Good nutritional food and drinks, with adequate fluids are essential.
Keep skin moist with lotions and other moisturizers. Do not use soaps that are heavily perfumed and contain sulfate. Moist skin is more comfortable and will heal any damage quickly.
Regular physical work-out is essential to maintain healthy blood circulation to all parts of body.
Apply good anti-aging serum, moisturizer after cleansing and toning the facial skin. We would advise quality products likeRejuvenating and Radiant formulations of Herbally Radiant that contain amazingly effective plant-based ingredients and special essential oils to transform skin into beautiful healthy form.

COLORADO TO BAN PLASTIC MICROBEADS IN SKINCARE PRODUCTS

So far Illinois and New Jersey have begun prohibiting use of harmful microbeads in skin care products. Now Colorado will be joining these states soon to ban these ingredients to protect public health and environment. Required legislation is being worked out for this purpose.
The microbeads are tiny plastic particles which are mixed in cleansers, body exfoliators, body scrubs, soaps, wash and shower gel, foaming face wash and other beauty products. These are non-bio-degradable and harmful to environment. There are other eco-friendly alternatives which manufacturers can turn to for continuing to manufacture their products.
Apart from natural organic cosmetics manufacturing businesses like Herbally Radiant, there are increasing number of NGOs (like International Campaign Against Use of Microbeads) and international bodies which are advocating bon on use of toxic and harmful chemical ingredients in cosmetics. To help consumers, many of them have listed on their websites the brand names of products that contain microbeads.  There are many websites informing consumers about the use of lead and toxic colors in lipsticks.
Earlier, the state of California could not pass the needed legislation to ban manufacture and sale of microbeads-mixed products.  It is expected to take up this legislation again soon.
Many top brands, including Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & Gamble, Estee Lauder had announced plans to phase out microbeads from their products. Many others are yet to decide about it.
Herbally Radiant has been manufacturing its organic beauty products with eco-friendly natural ingredients, without any toxins or potentially harmful ingredients. It has also been raising awareness about the effects of pharma-based products, many of them not disclosing the ingredients on the labels. Its popular anti-aging formulations (Rejuvenating and Radiant) are the safest and effective natural products available in the market at present.

MAINE STATE TO REGULATE USE OF PHTHALATES IN BEAUTY PRODUCTS

As we highlighted in our last blog, there has been growing opposition to the mixing of phthalates by manufacturers of beauty products.  These are industrial chemicals which are used in baby lotions, shampoo, hair spray, nail polish, but are potentially hazardous, especially for reproductive health systems.

The State of Maine has responded to the concerns of public health, and has proposed to regulate mixing of phthalates in beauty products.  The proposed rule will "apply to the manufacturers or distributors of certain products, the fiscal impact of which will fall mainly on manufacturers of  such consumer products which contain intentionally add amounts of the four proposed priority chemicals". The State hopes that these regulations will make companies think twice before formulating products with phthalates.

Main also aims to protect children's health by regulating formaldehyde industrial chemical used in several skincare products.

With proven safety and reliability record of skincare products which contain natural ingredients, it might also be useful for public to know the better choice they have.  At Herbally Radiant we have customers who have been able to bring under control many skin related disorders by using products with USDA approved organic ingredients and herbal extracts. Its anti-aging ('Rejuvenating' - 'Radiant') and anti-acne ('Clean') formulations have especially been found very effective and cost effective.

USE OF HARMFUL PHTHATALE IN SKINCARE PRODUCTS

There was encouraging study by UC California researchers that cosmetics manufacturers are now using lower levels of phthatale in their products.
Phthatale is a kind of industrial chemical used to soften plastic.  It is mixed by many companies in skincare products like after shave lotions, baby creams, shampoos, hair sprays, nail polish and other skin softeners.  However, it can disrupt the endocrine system which secretes hormones and thus can affect reproductive systems.
Though FDA tests did not find enough evidence to regulate its use in beauty products, many studies have highlighted the resulting harmful effects. Environmental groups, which have been campaigning against this chemical, allege that the manufacturers are continuing its use due to a loophole in FDA regulations. A Beldon Fund study found that out of 72 products selected for testing, 52 were found to contain this industrial chemical in concentrations ranging up to nearly 3% of product formulation.
Since 2004, more than 1000 companies have agreed to remove certain chemicals from their skin care products.  Last year, P&G also announced that 70% of its beauty products were now phthatale-free.
Consumers need to remain vigilant about the potential harmful ingredients in the cosmetics they purchase. Due to potentially harmful effects of pharma-based chemicals on skin, Herbally Radiant has been advising consumers to take extra precaution, and consider using natural organic beauty products instead which are backed by proven experience over centuries.

ELIMINATE FREE RADICALS NATURALLY TO ENHANCE BEAUTY

In beauty care routine, we need to be aware about free radicals which are oxidative and damage skin. Free radicals produced by skin cells need to be removed that can lead biological organism to age prematurely. These turn the oils of our skin rancid with adverse impact on collagen, and collagens are important for the protection of skin as they serve the building blocks of skin.

To remove free radicals regularly, one should apply antioxidants-rich formulations. Such formulations neutralize and repair any skin damage by helping in reducing scars and promoting healing. Since antioxidants are destroyed or oxidized, one has to continue to feed the skin with fresh antioxidants to keep it healthy.

At Herbally Radiant we have included many antioxidants-rich ingredients in our products. These act fast in slowing, or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. The combined effect of these ingredients slows down further damage to cells and especially prevent oxidative damage which otherwise leads to premature aging signs.

Besides antioxidants, other top products of Herbally Radiant, especially its age-defying products like REJUVENATING and RADIANT also contain vitamin C and vitamin E. These complement the effect of antioxidants and help in regeneration of young cells. Regular use of antioxidants-rich formulations will prevent oxidation  by neutralizing the free radicals in the first stage, and then preventing their recurrence.

For added effect, Herbally Radiant has used special minerals for enhancing the effect on skin.  Especially in winter, when there is extra dryness and the skin needs more moisturization, one can keep applying such creams or lotions generously which also provide rich nutrients to the skin and create rejuvenating effect.

Herbally Radiant formulations are among the best in protecting skin from scars and lines, giving it naturally radiant appearance.  Especially for the purpose of rejuvenating skin most effectively, the Rejuvenating, Radiant and Clean range serums launched by Herbally Radiant have been found to create amazing effect. Serums are very tiny molecules which penetrate pores in skin, and therefore act very fast and effectively.

To cope up with acne and other skin disorders for any skin type, the new range: CLEAN in the form of Cleanser, Toner, Serum and Scrub is just amazing. With Tea Tree Essential Oil, in combination with other herbal extracts, CLEAN products have become most sought after skin-friendly products in the beauty market.
